Auggie Success

A collection of guides to help Auggies navigate academic success

Styles

Every paper you write in college will have its own style of formatting and citing sources. Style Guides lay out these rules. Wondering what style to use?

  • Sometimes a particular style is required or preferred by a particular discipline (i.e. APA style for Psychology, Chicago style for History)
  • Professors often have their own favorites. Check your assignment sheets or syllabus to see if a certain style is required
  • If there is no required style, feel free to choose your own

Whatever style you use, make sure to use it consistently and accurately. If you have any questions you can always contact your professor or a librarian for help!

No matter where your information is from, whether a scholarly database or a personal interview with a source, it's important to document it thoroughly. Using a consistent style reassures your professor, and anyone else who reads your paper or sees your presentation, that your information and opinions are trustworthy.
