Preserving Open Data

A guide to finding removed federal data.

Start Here

Due to updates being made to U.S. government websites and datasets as of January 28th, 2025, previously available federal information is disappearing. This guide is being updated continuously to aggregate links to archived versions of federal data. Please contact a librarian if you notice any broken links or know of other similar sources.

On this page you will find:

  • Databases available to the Augsburg community that have stored federal data
  • Archives and mirrors of federal information that has since been removed
  • Federal information preservation groups and projects
  • Tools to identify what has been changed or what is currently being done to preserve information
  • Subject guides at other libraries - These may have different or more current information, give them a look!

Librarian highlight: The Data Rescue Project (linked below in the Preservation Groups section) has done a fantastic job of pulling together resources for finding and preserving data. Check out their website if you are interested in getting involved in their mission to rescue data, or sign up for their newsletter for updates about their progress.
