Research Help & the Learning Commons

The Learning Commons' Research Desk, staffed with an on-call professional librarian, is available for drop-in research help. We're open year-round; here's our schedule during the academic year:

Monday–Friday 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Want after-hours research help?  E-mail the research desk at; log in to chat; make an appointment for later; or leave a voicemail message at 612-330-1604.

Item Checkout & the Circulation Desk

Circulation Desk  Look to your left when you walk in at street level, and you'll see our friendly Circ Desk. The staff here can help you:

  • check out and return books
  • get items that are on reserve
  • pick up books ordered from another library
  • borrow a laptop or audiovisual equipment (or a bike!)
  • activate your barcode
  • find your flash drive! (if it's in our lost-and-found)

Call us at 612-330-1017. We're open when the library is open.

Basic Technology & the Helpdesk

The Help Desk is awesome!  We're open when the library is open; call 612-330-1400.  Here in the Learning Commons, student technology assistants solve basic tech-related problems in the library.  Come here to:

  • troubleshoot software
  • make printer problems go away
  • get help with ebooks
  • get help with ordering articles or books
  • learn how to access databases
  • make personal laptops talk to library printers

Advanced Technology & the TechDesk

The Tech Desk, just south of the Learning Commons (room 104; 612-330-1400), is the central point of contact for students and technology.  Here you can:

E-mail us at, or use our handy contact form. Other questions? Try our tech FAQs.

Online Help

Help is a click away!  Lindell Library holds over 190,000 physical items—but the library also has access to bazillions of electronic resources, including scholarly articles and ebooks. In addition to the Learning Commons’ research and technical support, Lindell Library provides digital reference services. The library has “Ask a Librarian” chat reference and online reference books. Plus you can always e-mail a librarian to get an answer back the next business day.

Writing and Citing

At the Writing Center, located at the library's Street Level, you can work with tutors on written assignments and access online style guides for citations and formatting. All Augsburg students are welcome—undergraduate and graduate, weekend and day program. No appointments are taken.  Some services:

  • brainstorming ideas
  • forming an argument
  • refining a thesis
  • organizing your paper
  • formatting your paper
  • proofreading final drafts

Study Rooms

Study Rooms   We have ten reserve-able study rooms, all on the Third Level of the library.  For eight of them, you must physically go to the door to write your name on the sign-up sheet—so retro.  The two largest, 302A and 302E, are reserved using Google Calendar.  Only Augsburg students, faculty members, and staff members may reserve these two rooms.
