Coming from Downtown Minneapolis: The Green Line

The Green Line

Metro Transit's Green Line train, which opened in 2014, runs from Union Depot in downtown St. Paul to the Minnesota Twins' Target Field in downtown Minneapolis, passing through St. Paul's Midway neighborhood and the University of Minnesota's Minneapolis campus. Both east and west trains stop at the West Bank station, a 10-minute walk from Augsburg's campus.

During rush hour, there is usually no more than 10 minutes between trains.

The Green Line intersects with Metro Transit's buses number 2 and number 3 at the East Bank and West Bank stations, with the number 7 at the West Bank station, with the number 22 at the Government Plaza station, and with the number 67 at the Raymond Avenue station. It runs with the Blue Line train throughout downtown Minneapolis, parting ways east and south of the U.S. Bank Stadium station.

Close to Augsburg, the Green Line runs along Washington Avenue, about four blocks north of Augsburg's campus.

Coming to Augsburg

Get off the Green Line train at the West Bank station. Walk up the stairs to 19th Avenue South and walk south on 19th Avenue to Riverside Avenue. Cross Riverside Avenue and go southeast on Riverside Avenue three blocks. This brings you to the Augsburg campus, specifically Augsburg's Oren Gateway Center at the intersection of 22nd Avenue South and Riverside Avenue.

Leaving Augsburg

Walk northwest on Riverside Avenue. At 19th Avenue South, turn right and go two blocks north to the West Bank Green Line station. Walk down the stairs or take the elevator to the train platform. Eastbound trains (to the University of Minnesota's East Bank, and St. Paul) are on the south side of the platform, westbound trains (to Minneapolis) on the north.

Coming from Downtown Minneapolis: The #7

The #7

Metro Transit's bus number 7 goes from the Theodore Wirth Golf Course in Minneapolis's Near North neighborhood to Fort Snelling (northeast of the MSP Airport) in the south. It runs down Plymouth Avenue to downtown Minneapolis's Warehouse District, through downtown (between Hennepin Avenue and Fifth Avenue South) on 4th Street South, then along Washington Avenue (near the Guthrie Theater and the U.S. Bank Stadium) and Cedar Avenue.

It runs nearly the whole length of Riverside Avenue, the northern border of of Augsburg's campus. At rush hour, buses are generally about 30 minutes apart.

On the southern end, it goes on 27th Avenue South and Minnehaha Avenue, stopping at the 46th Street Station that connects to Metro Transit's Blue Line train, then continues onto 34th Avenue South to Hwy. 62.

During rush hour, it takes about 30 minutes to get from Theodore Wirth to the Augsburg campus, and about the same time to get from Augsburg to Hwy. 62.

Coming to Augsburg

Get off the southbound number 7 on Riverside Avenue at 21st Avenue South (by the Jimmy John's sandwich shop), 22nd Avenue South (by Augsburg's Oren Gateway Center), or 25th Avenue South (by Augsburg's ice arena). Get off the northbound number 7 on Riverside Avenue between 24th and 25th Avenues South (by the University of Minnesota hospital) or east of 23rd Avenue South (by the hospital parking garage). All these stops put you on the northern edge of the Augsburg campus.

Leaving Augsburg

Catch the southbound number 7 on Riverside Avenue at 21st Avenue South (by the Jimmy John's sandwich shop), 22nd Avenue South (by Augsburg's Oren Gateway Center), or 25th Avenue South (by Augsburg's ice arena). Catch the northbound number 7 across the street on Riverside Avenue between 24th and 25th Avenues South (by the University of Minnesota hospital) or east of 23rd Avenue South (by the hospital parking garage).

Coming from Minneapolis’s Calhoun-Isles Neighborhood: The #2

The #2

Metro Transit's bus number 2 goes from Franklin and Hennepin Avenues in the west (in Minneapolis's Calhoun-Lakes neighborhood) to Central Avenue and 4th Avenue Southeast in southeast Minneapolis. Most of its east–west run is on Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis, just south of Augsburg, and from there it conveniently zigzags up along Riverside Avenue, right on the north edge of of Augsburg's campus. At rush hour, buses are generally about 10 minutes apart.

During rush hour, it takes about 20 minutes to get from Calhoun-Lakes to the Augsburg campus, and about 25 minutes to get here from southeast Minneapolis.

  • On Riverside Avenue, catch the westbound number 2 at 21st Avenue South (by the Jimmy John's sandwich shop), 22nd Avenue South (by Augsburg's Oren Gateway Center), or 25th Avenue South (by Augsburg's ice arena).   • For Franklin Avenue, walk south over the pedestrian bridge from Murphy Square over Hwy. 94 to South 9th Street, turn right on South 9th Street, then left on 22nd Avenue South. Go south on 22nd Avenue for one block, to Franklin Avenue. Catch the westbound number 2 bus on the northeast corner of the intersection of Franklin and 22nd Avenue, by Pizza Luce. Catch the eastbound number 2 bus across Franklin Avenue on the southwest corner, by the Seward Cafe.
